Hi, bin #neuhier, gibt es was wichtiges zu beachten?

So, der neue #Raspberry mit #PiHole läuft stabil. Hab der Fritzbox eben gesagt, sie soll den neuen DNSServer verwenden – scheint stabil zu laufen. 13 Geräte aktiv.

Hatte ein Angebot für ein #Wärmepumpe mit Pufferspeicher incl. Einbau. Wie erwartet ca.45.000€. Das war mir zu viel! Aber es gibt doch eine Förderung sagte der Installateur. Ich habe dann für uns nur eine Brauchwassserwärmepumpe mit neuem 300 LiterSpeicher in den Keller gestellt für 10.000 € , als erster Schritt. Also eine weitere Wärmepumpe etwas größer für die #Heizung bekomme ich für 15.000€ meinte der Monteur. Diese Art der Förderung ist doch eine Frechheit! Preise werden hoch gezogen und Leute werden abgeschreckt. Haus von 1930 dicke Wände Fußbodenheizung in Parterre , das zur Info.

Ich bastle jetzt mal ein Gehäuse um meinen #Raspberry #Zero. Wünscht mir Glück! Das Foto mit dem Messingteil zeigt den aktuellen Ist-Zustand.

Hi, ich habe ein Problem mit #meshtastic. Mein Freund und ich haben einen identischen Node auf Basis eines Heltec V3. Ich kann weder ihm, noch in die Broadcastgruppe Nachrichten senden, da dann immer die Fehlermeldung kommt: Maximale Anzahl an Weiterleitungen erreicht, obwohl wir beide 7 Hops eingestellt haben und er nur 3 Hops entfernt ist. Unsere LoRa Einstellungen sind bis auf den Frequenzslot identisch da sich dieser in meiner Android 15 App nicht auf 0 setzen lässt. Wenn er ihn ebenfalls auf 1 stellt können wir uns bei direkten Kontakt zwar schreiben, über andere Nodes geht das aber nicht.
Kennt jemand eine Lösung?
PS: Der Node meines Freundes hat die Version 2.6.11, ich die 2.7.13, lief aber auch schon unter 2.6.11 bei mir nicht.

Noch schnell ein Update gemacht vor der Arbeit #dietpi 🙈

Immer wieder ist die #dunkelflaute die Begründung für #Gaskraftwerke . Ich wundere mich das alle niemand auf die Idee kommt das wir unser Verhalten anpassen. Ich kann mir beispielsweise nicht vorstellen das es an Ladesäulen in den nächsten Jahren keine schwankenden Tarife geben wird. Es kann ja durchaus sein das wir während #hochlastzeitfenstern ( hier die Prognosen für 2026 der #Tennet https://tennet-drupal.s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/default/2025-10/Hochlastzeitfenster%202026.pdf vielleicht gar nicht mehr laden sollten. Und das der #strom in diesen Zeiten mal 100% Mehr kostet . In anderen Zeiten ist er für lau. Das wird das Verhalten schnell ändern . Wir benötigten halt #smartmeter für alle und #gaskathi kann ihre Kraftwerkspläne einstampfen.

So, ich glaube ich bin jetzt tatsächlich weg von #ChromeOS, der Haupt-PC läuft jetzt seit etwa zwei Wochen mit #Bluefin und ich bin ehrlich gesagt sehr zufrieden.

Man bemerkt das System halt einfach nicht und ich glaube das ist das beste Kompliment das man einem Betriebssystem aussprechen kann.

Der #Raspberry läuft stabil – jetzt erstmal heruntergefahren und ein Backup angelegt. Die #Fritzbox scheint auch automatisch einen Ersatz zu verwenden, wenn der Kleine nicht erreichbar ist. Bin gespannt, wann der nächste einzieht 🙈

Kann mir jemand ein gutes Backup-Tool für #Windows empfehlen?
Aktuell nutze ich den #Veeam Agent und sichere auf ein Netzwerklaufwerk auf einer #Hetzner #Storagebox.
#Veeam möchte allerdings regelmäßig ein Komplett-Backup anlegen, was häufig fehlschlägt, weil der Rechner nur ein paar Stunden eingeschaltet ist.

Ich suche etwas Moderneres – idealerweise ein Tool wie #Borg oder #Restic, aber mit einer GUI für Windows.

Schon irgendwie blöd gemacht. Beim Upgrade wurden offenbar nicht alle benötigten Pakete mit installiert. Der Fehler ist mir erst nach ein paar Wochen aufgefallen. Ich glaube, ich muss an den Feiertagen mal alles komplett neu installieren, um wieder ein sauberes System zu haben.

Dein Toot erinnert mich gerade an die Zustände in unserer Firma.

Wir führen am 1.1.2026 eine neue ERP-Software ein. Seit dem 1. Oktober läuft eine dreimonatige Testphase, und inzwischen gibt es täglich ein 15-minütiges Teams-Meeting zum aktuellen Status. Wäre nur schön, wenn wir im Lager und Versand auch endlich Zugang zum neuen System bekämen – wir haben bislang noch gar nichts testen können. Die Einführung läuft ja erst seit anderthalb Jahren.

Ich habe das Ganze dann einfach mal selbst auf einem V-Server installiert, um meinem Team wenigstens einmal zeigen zu können, wie es später aussehen wird.

Dabei ist uns direkt aufgefallen, dass die 15-Zoll-Monitore im Lager viel zu klein sind – das neue System verwendet deutlich kleinere Menüs. Und dass wir immer noch Windows 10 ohne Updates verwenden … darf man keinem erzählen. > es gäbe eine Firewall 🤣

Ich habe mir fest vorgenommen, in der ersten Januarwoche ein paar Karten mitzubringen … das wird ein Spaß.

Might be completely unsupported, but Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 (x86_64) runs perfectly fine on the bhyve hypervisor on my FreeBSD based home-server :-)

Running several applications (like Forgejo, Traefik and uptime-kuma) in Podman containers and is managed by Red Hat Satellite for patching and lifecycle management. Satellite even shows "BHYVE" as the hyperviror in the UI.

I work at Meta (Facebook). When I first joined Mastodon/Misskey and warned everyone about some of the awful things happening online, I was celebrated, and my posts were trending.

But when I warned people about certain online scams I knew about —cross-posting scams between Mastodon and Misskey — suddenly claiming to work for Meta was considered a liability. It didn’t matter how much proof I, or others, provided. Even when we caught scammers in a lie, it seemed to make no difference.

“Gaza Verified” is currently the largest scam on these platforms. But whenever the topic of Israel and Palestine comes up, people become very emotional and often not rational.

For example, I shared two screenshots (see photos) where someone claimed to be a 36-year-old woman with two kids (ages 4 and 7), while another post on Mastodon claimed to be a 19-year-old girl. The posts were identical and used the same GoFundMe URL.

How do I know all this?

Because during 2020–2022, when most people were dealing with the pandemic, job layoffs, cutbacks, and a recession, I was helping others.

I learned a lot and discovered just how easy it is to help a stranger. 💜

It should go without saying that I have blocked this person and their many alternative accounts, since they conveniently listed them all.

But I can’t help it if they resurface. I can only do me. 🤷

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but…

You matter.

Not just now, but always — you always have, and you always will — matter.

Everyone is just trying to make it in this world, and for better or worse, we’re all just people. Just people.

Your job, your title, your social status, your place in this world may change, but you will always be a person who matters. We all matter.

The lie some would have you believe is that some people matter more than others. But the truth is, we all add up — and so we all matter.

That moment when someone brags about having so many accounts and then gets upset when I mistakenly message one of them — because who can keep track of all of them? 🙄

And what was my message? To tell them how they can best survive the abuse that they are currently experiencing.

Me <--- Public enemy number one. Supporting the LGBTQ Community. Wanted dead or alive. 🤷

You know, if I'm that awful, you could always block me. It’s much simpler and far less dramatic.

But you're mad that I have more than one account — says the person with more accounts than I have. And also the person who seems to be obsessed with me. Doesn’t this count as online harassment? 🤔

I have more than one to overcome the fragmentation of the Fediverse. You, on the other hand, have more than one to stalk me. We are not the same.

That said, I am genuinely sorry you're experiencing abuse, and I hope things turn out better for you. But I think you should channel your frustration in a more productive manner.

No one working for Meta is going to prove that they work for Meta.

Anyone who has followed me knows that I speak the truth because I say things before it's known to the rest of the world. That speaks for itself.

You should give nobody your personal information. A Meta employee cannot help you, even if they want to — and we do not (want to help you).

My favorite slip-up was when “Joy” posted their own video claiming to be from Gaza. But in the background was a large poster of Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran —proving she was actually in Iran, not Gaza.

Whenever someone points out these facts to warn people about this scam, they are met with a lot of emotional pushback. What is happening in Gaza is awful — but what’s worse is allowing a scam to continue in order not to upset people. At the very least, when evidence is presented, it should be considered.

But presenting facts on Mastodon or Misskey is often like trying to convince people COVID-19 is real on Facebook. People would rather cling to beliefs than face facts. They prefer to believe what makes them feel good — and no one feels good realizing they may have been scammed.

I remember telling everyone that Ruja Ignatova was scamming people (2014–2017).

Back then, thousands of people told me to mind my own business and insisted I didn’t know what I was talking about. The signs were there, the evidence was there, but many didn’t want to hear it. Speaking out and saying that Ruja Ignatova was up to no good felt like digital suicide.

Gaza Verified on the Fediverse is our Ruja Ignatova. Even when "Joy" mistakenly posted that video with a building-size poster of Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, in the background — proving she was in Iran and not Gaza — no one paid attention.

When I told everyone I worked for Meta and warned them about the awful things we were doing, it was celebrated. My post even trended on the Fediverse. But when I brought evidence of a scam, suddenly my working for Meta was used against me as a character flaw.

Humans. You’re all weird. Some of you can be hit with facts — COVID is real — and still deny it until you die.

Interestingly enough, when I first told people I worked for Meta and exposed all the horrible things we were doing, that fact was celebrated on the Fediverse. It was often even trending there.

But when I started talking about the scams I knew about — including the ones coming onto the Fediverse to warn people — suddenly, working for Meta was seen as a character flaw.

For decades, you told your friends, family, and anyone who would listen to use Mozilla Firefox, and you explained the privacy benefits, and all the beliefs you had against Google and Microsoft. But despite all that, Chromium became the default standard. Because while the majority of the people would like privacy, they'll sacrifice their privacy for convenience.

I'm not without sympathy. For decades, I've been telling people Linux is best. But Microsoft Windows rules the desktop world. It is only now that Windows seeks to require you view ads, and inches closer to people feeling like they don't have control over their own devices, that Linux gains any market share. 🤷

Having said that, Mozilla is no longer marketing for the minority, and is focusing on what both people and corporations want — a Virtual Digital Assistant.

Hello 4Chan

This will be the — you know what? I've lost track of how many times I've been "featured" on 4chan.

Unfortunately, the mass wave of people opening tickets claiming I should add the chan to this list, triggered the anti-spam feature. You're all a very enthusiastic bunch, as always. 😂 That said, 4Chan is not part of the Fediverse and the domain name extension is American, so it wouldn't qualify for the list. 🤷

But I did want to address one of the tickets, since it does underline some of the issues among the Fediverse. 😉

The Fediverse has a lot of fragmentation. This is often caused by admins who should not be admins. An admin will get into a disagreement with 1 person, 1x and choose to block not just that individual, but the whole site and all their users. So if you have 5,000 people on site "1A" and 5,000 on site "2B", you have 10,000 people who cannot communicate with one another, and are clueless this has taken place.

Another issues, which you may have noticed, are many Fediverse sites wrongfully discriminate against Fediverse sites in Asia (Korea, Japan, etc...).

I find this ironic for many reasons.

The one I am currently on (this one) is in Europe, but one of the reasons I have had more than one account, and why many of the 3rd party Fediverse Apps allow you to sign in to multiple accounts, is to overcome that fragmentation. The Fediverse most certainly does have a fragmentation issue.

If you're looking to join the Fediverse. And presuming you are one of the people who do not want to promote hate speech (not all of 4Chan is bad), I would recommend an Asian site, since freedom of speech is more respected and valued. Perhaps more Asian sites allow it because it's not exactly widespread in offline (in the real world).

There are some good European sites (this being one of them). But know that most Asian sites will be more relaxed.

I often recommend people avoid overly forked operating systems that rely on upstream.

It's not that I am against forking — rather, what is all too common is that a development ends up with far too many middlemen and a compounded supply chain. And we are talking about an operating system, which likely already has a lot of middlemen and an extensive dependency chain.

This is why I often recommend Linux distributions that are original and independent, for example, Fedora or NixOS. These are not forks — these are what others use to make forks. Debian is another example. To make Ubuntu, they fork Debian and build up from there.

But Ubuntu may encounter issues inherent within Debian, or it may introduce its own mistakes, or a combination of the two. It's a good OS, but that is the reality. Then along comes someone who decides to fork Ubuntu. Now you've got to worry about Debian, Ubuntu, their fork, and any combination of those three, plus their own issues.

You cannot block Meta's AI without blocking every Firefox user.

Meta, knowing full well that there is a conscious and deliberate effort to block artificial intelligence. Decided to teach their AI to use Firefox and loaded up a bunch of thin micro virtual machines.

It is not just a user string that people need to worry about. And most people aren't going to block the other popular browser on the internet. That is what Mata is counting on.

I've been trying to avoid needing a larger hard drive, but I think I am failing in that regard.

The problem is, most large capacity drives, while still being reasonably priced at the moment, are still mechanical drives. SSD drives (particularly SATA) still balloon in price if you're looking for something over 2 TB.

I'm someone who has a list of things he doesn't like paying much for, and hard drives are one of those things. lol

All these corporations are integrating A.I. while the vocal minority insists that no one wants it, no one uses it, and that we should get rid of it. But corporations aren’t mindlessly wasting money on A.I. for nothing. It’s being added because many people either use it or tolerate it — and ultimately, it’s profitable.

So long as the majority endures in silence, A.I. is going nowhere — except onto every device in your home and into every mainstream app.

The only way to avoid it is to prove that it isn’t profitable. That means refusing to use it and choosing something else. But people are no longer willing to sacrifice for their convictions.

A tool that does everything, that all those many free tools do, plus even what many of those paid tools do too. But it is free, open source, and will safely de-bloat Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Fedora Kinoite is good, but I am not a fan of SDDM. I much prefer GDM.

sudo rpm-ostree install GDM && sudo systemctl mask sddm.service && sudo systemctl reboot

Your PC will boot to a terminal. Log in using your username and password. Then type:

sudo systemctl enable gdm

sudo systemctl reboot

The odd thing is now you will have both KDE Plasma and the basic GNOME to choose from. By basic, I mean, except for the welcome to gnome app (the tour app), the parental control app, and gnome settings — It is essentially all KDE Plasma (what came with Fedora Kinoite). 👍

At login, just select KDE Plasma — unless you really want to use Gnome. 😅

But NixOS likes to change things for no reason other than to change things. It gets really annoying really fast.

By that, I mean they love to rename their commands all the time. 🙄

example=true; will become 1example=true only to later be renamed example1=true; and eventually renamed to 1_example=true; and then example_1=true; —— And this cycle appears to be continuous, for nearly everything, for no apparent reason.

Change for the sake of change because somebody in their development team is completely sadistic, and just wants to say, see, we're doing something, is infuriating. 🤦

My next phone case is going to be super bright and unusual, like neon green or something like that. Because with a dark case, I could sit it down right next to me, and somehow lose track of the damn thing. It tends to blend in wherever I put it.

14-year-old CPU from 2012. Not the minimum gen 8 CPU. Not even gen 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, or v2 CPU. This is an old school gen 1 CPU from 2012, an Intel Xeon E5-1660, using the long discontinued Sandy Bridge microarchitecture.

The PC is using 64GB of old school DDR-3 RAM. It is running off of old SATA SSD drives. The only "modern" hardware on this old PC is the GPU, an AMD Rx6400 from 2022 (nearly 4-year-old) and the 2.5 GB nic card.

Yet, it is running Windows 11 just fine (see photo). I have tested this on Windows 11 Home, Professional, Enterprise, and Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC.

If you had any doubts on whether Microsoft's hardware requirements for Windows 11 were artificial or not. Put those doubts aside. Windows 11's only goal was to create a lot of e-waste, so hardware manufacturers could boost sales.

I suggest people try Linux (Fedora KDE Plasma). If you must run Windows, try Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC (updates until 2032).
