Server backup by using proxmox-backup-client inside a Linux container by running it with podman . Volume-mounting the entire root-fs of the server into the container read-only:

Ich habe eben ein Backup von 2021 eingespielt. Ich hatte #Threema jahrelang nicht genutzt, da ich nur zwei aktive Kontakte hatte. Ich bin mal gespannt, ob sich etwas geändert hat.

Hallo! Meine Homepage erstelle ich am PC mit #reStrukturedText (.rst). Dazu verwende ich einen Editor namens ReText, in dem man gleich sieht, wie das Ergebnis ist.
Jetzt war ich in der Bahn unterwegs, hatte mein Android Tablet dabei und wollte weiter schreiben. Klar, man kann rst mit jedem Texteditor erstellen, aber eine Vorschau ist hilfreich, man erkennt schnell Syntax-Fehler. Also schnell mal einen entsprechenden Editor installieren. Nur - ich habe keinen gefunden. Gibt es für Android wirklich keinen Editor für reStructuredText (also so was wie Markator für markdown), oder bin ich nur zu blöd zum Suchen?

Das könnte doch ein spannendes Spiel für #Satisfactory Spieler werden.

mir war gestern wieder langweilig. Da habe ich einfach mal einen IRC-Chat in Mastodon nachgebaut.

Schreibt dem User hier einfach privat über „Ausgewählte Profile” ein Hallo oder Ähnliches und ihr werdet aufgefordert, einen Nickname festzulegen.

Das ist natürlich nur ein Experiment und soll Spaß machen.🙃

Es stehen dann die folgenden Befehle zur Auswahl, die immer direkt an den Bot geschrieben werden müssen:

Sollte man nicht insbesondere von "Eine Welt"- Läden Achtsamkeit in Bezug auf globale Entwicklungen und geopolitische Geschehnisse erwarten?

In dem Ausdruck steckt ein Stück Verantwortung. Eine Welt, aber wessen? Wir hier, die dort, Import, Flugzeugtourismus, wirtschaftliche Beziehungen? Kultureller Austausch?

Nicht dass ich gegen kleine Läden wäre oder gegen Schokoladenkonsum o. ä., aber ich vermisse hier etwas.. Es sollte doch eine gewisse Instanz sein, die sich so nennt. Und hat diese nicht auch eine Verantwortung zur Bereitstellung unabhängiger Informationen?

I got the machine used and upgraded it:
- 32 GB of memory
- 1 TB SATA SSD
- Innolux N140HCG-GQ2 FHD LCD panel
- New Lenovo backlight keyboard (US-ANSI)
- Glass Trackpad from X1 Carbon
- Intel AX210 WiFi module (802.11ax)
- Dual batteries

Literally everything in that laptop, that I need does work on FreeBSD 14.3:

- WiFi with 5Ghz and proper speeds
- Sleep/Resume
- Integrated Webcam
- Power management
- Trackpad
- Thunderbolt Docking (including Audio and HDMI)

It's the perfect development and productvity machine

FreeBSD 14.3 got a greatly improved support for Intel WiFi hardware (iwlwifi driver).

Finally, the AX210 (802.11ac) wifi card in my ThinkPad T480 works perfectly fine without having to rely on the wifibox workarround anymore.

IPv4 works perfectly fine
IPv6 work perfectly fine
Standby and resume woks
Speeds are phenomenal

Also the WiFi configuration is rather easy:

KDE Plasma 6 on FreeBSD 14.3 on my Lenovo ThinkPad T480:

- Intel iGPU working via i915kms ✅
- Audio working out of the box ✅
- Intel AX210 WIFI via wifibox ✅

Power consumption is still worse than under Linux (3,5h vs. 5h+) but I'll try to optimize that further.

So far, I'm *very* satisfied with how well FreeBSD runs on the ThinkPad T480

Thrilled to have a new, production-ready CI/CD pipeline live! It automatically builds and deploys my Jekyll static WIP site (https://hofstede.it) on every push to the main branch.

The architecture is a showcase of modern Linux tools:

🔹 Server running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 (RHEL)
🔹 Forgejo for Git hosting & Actions.
🔹 A rootless Forgejo Runner, running in Podman, managed by a systemd Quadlet file.
🔹 Traefik reverse proxy running as a Podman container.
🔹 An Nginx web server for the site, also in a container for easy discovery by Traefik.

The Forgejo Runner and the Nginx Webserver run in different unprivileged user contexts.

The magic is the secure bridge between the rootless CI job and the web server. The pipeline creates a build artifact, and a systemd.path watcher on the host instantly triggers a deployment script.
It's fully decoupled, secure, and works like a charm.

The amazing openpgp-card-tools(1) and openpgp-card-ssh-agent(2) compile and work perfectly fine on FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE.

Can properly use my OpenPGP card to authenticate against SSH servers and use oct to manage my cards.

The only preperations, I had to make in order for it to work:

Migrated my Git forge (Forgejo) and my personal website (hofstede.io) to a new server, running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 (RHEL) .

All services running as Podman containers
- Traefik reverse proxy
- PostgreSQL Datebase
- Littlelink (my website)
- Forgejo

During the migration, I did several optimizations:

1. Converting all container definitions to quadlet files (/etc/containers/systemd/*.container)
2. Modernizing my Traefik configuration according to good practices (global TLS redirect, modern ciphers, etc)
3. Securing the system with firewalld, SELinux (enforced mode) and Anubis (Anti AI Crawler filter)
4. Using podman secrets for all sensitive informations (DB credentials)

Very satisfied with the result. My container definitions are now much clearer, follow a structure and are pretty consistent :-)

- Having the power of a RTX4090 in the palm of your hands
- Up to 4K60fps in docked mode on the TV
- Insane battery life (I did play Forza Horizon 5 and Witcher 3 for more than 7 hours!)

The combination of SteamDeck and GeforceNow is just a heavenly good match!

Time to tackle the re-certification for the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) exam.

Spun up a virtual lab environment with an Ansible contol node plus 5 managed nodes to practice with.

All easily done on Proxmox VE, that is running on a server in the @hetzner datacenter.

And the best part: VM snapshots makes it easy to roll back to the original state, whenever it's needed 🙂

Using the native GeforceNOW Steam-Deck app (Flatpak) on a Linux desktop computer with an AMD GPU does work amazing:

It does use HW Acceleration for the HEVC video decoding, which makes it extremely efficient and snappy. Currently it's only working with AMD GPUs.

Tried asking a Large Lying Model (LLM) something about firewall configuration on Ubiquity network devices in combination with WireGuard VPN.
